SoundOut at Quaker Meeting House. Wednesday 09th May 2012
Although we had a meeting on the 24th of April, being an Annual General Meeting, it was more a committee meeting than anything else., To me, the meeting tonight represented the start of what I hope will be a set of very enjoyable sessions. Hence I've called this, meeting 1.
The format of the session:
Arrive, from 6:15, for coffee, tea, chat.
7:00pm - Group check in. This part of the session, will always remain confidential, as we have the chance here to discuss any personal issues, successes, failures, anything members want to get off their chests. It's also a chance for general group chat about topical issues.
We came to a natural break at 7:45, and took a 15 minute break - during which time, I have to say, we started talking about committee business, something we said we wouldn't do. We'll have to watch that one for the future, because it can seem cliquey although the atmosphere was very inclusive.
8:00 and we started on the first of 3 brainstorms around things to do at SoundOut sessions
Before we go into what was discussed, I want to tell you what I told the group. That is, it is important to allow free rein on our imagination and not be constrained by practicalities or monetary considerations when doing this type of brainstorm. Often good ideas are generated by this kind of free thinking. The idea is to generate as many ideas as possible, so no limits.
Brainstorm One. Team-work, Team-building, fund-raising ideas

Brainstorm 3. Discussion Topics
Are there any discussion topics you've had when you've thought "Oh I wish we could have carried on this discussion"? Well, here at SoundOut, we can do just that. As long as we have a few session plans lined up that we can tap into at any time, there is nothing to stop us carrying a discussion over from one week to the next if people don't want to leave the topic. They can be Gay themed. They don't have to be.

Discussions. Arising From The Brainstorms
The Aids Quilt and Gay Themed Flag - This is a good opportunity to involve all our members, both from South Yorkshire and the wider world. We could ask people to donate some material that is Gay Themed and create, either a quilt or a flag (Or both), and once done, either auction it off to generate funds, or keep as something SoundOut is proud to have created.
That is as far as we got before we ran out of time. We still have quite a lot to discuss about the meaning of some of these items and how we can adapt some of the items to make a good session.
Here's the chance for you to get involved. I've created a discussion Forum around the 3 brainstorms. It would be good if you could come up with other ideas and pick out your favourites from each brainstorm. Click HERE to go to the forum
